PBIS Winners

PBIS Paw Bucks/You’ve Been Noticed

Students at CSE can earn Paw Bucks for exhibiting the characteristics in the C.A.R.E matrix.  Every other week paw bucks earned are put into a drawing where students can win a prize, a book, and a snack if their paw buck is drawn.  Students who follow the C.A.R.E. matrix faithfully earn an end of semester pizza party.   Marco Tino, a Kindergarten student, was honored by the CCPS You’ve Been Noticed initiative for his kindness and respect toward everyone.

The PBIS Paw Bucks initiative have shifted the culture toward a positive and kind minded student body.  Office referrals have dropped.  Teachers are able to teach more effectively without disruption.

Attendance party

Attendance Initiative

CSE believe attendance is the most fundamental aspect for learning.  As such, an attendance initiative has been developed.  Classes are recognized on afternoon announcements daily for perfect attendance.  At the end of the month, the class with the best attendance percentage earns a special activity.  At the end of the semester, students with perfect attendance are invited to a party.

Monthly attendance average for the school is above 90%.  In addition, chronic absentee numbers have declined.  When students are in school daily they have access to all learning resources including great teaching.  Good attendance means test scores go up.

Reading Initiative

Men DO Read and Robes Read Across Georgia

During Read Across America week CSE participates in two special events.  Men Do Read is a day when men from the community come and read to students.  Firefighters, police, artists, authors, and many others were in attendance to show our young men and women that Men Do Read.  Robes Read Across Georgia is an event where judges across the state are paired with schools.  The judges read a story on Zoom and make themselves available for questions after.

Literacy is one of the top initiatives in our school and in CCPS.  By participating in events that include the community, students see that reading is not just about learning information for school.  Everyone needs to read to learn, but you can also read for enjoyment.  Any reading increases comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency.  Studies show that the more students read the higher the test scores.

D's Holiday Sole

D’s Holiday Soles

Each year during the holiday season 70-100 students are able to receive a brand new pair of shoes, socks, and hats.  This event is headed by Ms. DuBois, a DES teacher and CSE’s Teacher of the year. About 70  students were able to receive shoes, socks, and hats this year.

When students do not have to worry about external things like shoes fitting or looking worn out, they are able to focus on their learning.  Having new shoes means I don’t have to worry which of my friends or classmates are going to notice and make a comment, mean or not.  Stress is alleviated, and students become more focused on what is important.

CSE Athletics

CSE Cheerleading and Athletic Activities

The CSE Cheerleading team participated in the CCPS Cheerleading Competition. The team finished 3rd in the Novice Large Group Division.  In addition, CSE Wildcats Basketball team had an undefeated regular season and made it to the second round of the playoffs.

There is a positive correlation between physical activity and academic performance. Sports help sharpen focus, reduce stress, and improve behavior in the classroom. Not to mention that extracurriculars offer opportunities for students to feel connected to their school community, especially those who might not shine in traditional academic settings.
